Next week some of the biggest names in lateral flow will
gather for one of the highlights of the industry’s calendar – the BioDot
Lateral Flow Workshop 2019 in Amsterdam.
This three-day event is not only a forum for developers to showcase the latest innovations and to discuss the latest trends, it also offers delegates a unique opportunity to learn the basics of lateral flow in a hands-on way.
For as well as the usual talks from industry experts on aspects like reagents, materials, equipment and the latest advances in quantification, delegates will also get to produce their own lateral flow tests and learn more about manufacturing equipment during several practical sessions conducted by one of Sona’s partners, Soma Biosciences.
Sona CEO Darren Rowles has been invited by the organisers BioDot to give a keynote presentation at the event. He will talk about the different labels that can be used in a lateral flow assay – from fluorescents, magnetics and latex to the various types of gold nanoparticle – and why it is important to choose the right one.
Darren said: “I want to get the message across that when thinking about an assay you should start with the ‘why’. A lot of test developers start with ‘what’, but I want to start with ‘why’. Why this market, why this assay, why this particular approach? Ask yourself why you are developing the test, how you will develop it and what will you use to develop it.”
Sona first attended the Lateral Flow Workshop last year, when it was held in Zaragoza, Spain. It might have been the first lateral flow event Sona had ever attended, but it proved to be a huge success. There was a high level of interest in our unique gold nanorods, and on the back of meetings and conversations we had with other delegates and exhibitors we were able to forge several partnerships and collaborations, including with Soma, OLM Diagnostics and Operon.
And while we are now more established and well known in the lateral flow industry, we are in some ways still considered the ‘new kids on the block’, so we are expecting a similar reception and level in of interest in Amsterdam. We look forward to learning more about the sector and building new relationships while strengthening existing ones. We hope to see you there.
